EP3 Played a pivotal role in the upgrade of the CNR Catwalk.

THE BRIEF

Client requested that an access way was required on the side of existing catwalk. The access way had to incorporate significant loading capabilities; and be totally flat level with the top steel of the catwalk.

Client Requirements Summary

  • Flat – allowing pipe to be rolled over it
  • Load capacity >2Te/m2
  • Slip resistant for personnel in transit
  • Light weight piece-small assembly
  • Quick / easy to assemble by deck crew

The Solution

A solution was devised meeting all the Clients requirements. It was carefully managed to ensure the Clients requirements were not over engineered – as this costs time and money.

The solution we devised uses a simple arrangement with mechanical locking and easily accessible pins (rather than conventional nuts/bolts).
The outrigging steelwork is pinned into position, and infill covers positioned. The covers are all interchangeable, allowing the ease of installation and/or replacement. The benefit of this approach has multiple ‘standard’ parts; not a multitude of ‘unique’ parts that only fit into unique positions.
